Thousands of commuters in Cape Town are stranded as taxi associations embark on a strike.
Taxis have not been running since four o'clock Monday morning.
The strike comes amid growing frustrations over the impounding of taxis and dissatisfaction with new taxi laws.
The City says it has deployed traffic officers to monitor the situation.
It is expected that members of the majority of the taxi associations in the Cape will take part in the strike.
They are unhappy about the impounding of their cars, the alleged hefty fines and the upcoming new taxi laws.
Taxi operators have for the past few days been distributing pamphlets advising their commuters to make alternative arrangements for today.
Metrorail says plans are in place to transport more commuters.
Provincial Minister of Transport Donald Grant will be meeting with the industry on Monday morning.
